A drug dealer has been jailed for four and a half years after accidentally shooting himself in the leg and having no choice but to call emergency services.
Romello Nangle, 28, called an ambulance to say he had been in a road accident and had a “big hole” in his leg.
He claimed he had caught his leg on the exhaust pipe of a motorbike when he fell off his bicycle. However the doctors at Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre found shotgun pellets in his leg, and duly notified the police.
At that point, Nangle changed his story to say he heard a loud bang before he came off his bike. In the end, the police opened an investigation and pieced together information through CCTV and mobile phone data, ultimately leading to Nangle’s arrest.
Nangle went on to admit having a loaded gun, conspiracy to pervert the court of justice and supplying a Class B drug. Not only that, but his mum, Melanie Nangle, and accomplice, Harveer Narwal, had also tried to cover up what happened. He had told them via text that he shot himself in the leg beause he “forgot the shotgun was loaded”, and they advised him on how to cover-up the incident (which obviously didn’t work and instead landed them in trouble with him).
Narwal, 29, was jailed for 13 months after earlier admitting perverting the course of justice. Nangle’s mum Melanie, 53, was given a nine-month sentence, suspended for 18 months.
